How is cost decided?
There are varying factors within tuition that will affect the cost to you as a parent/carer;
- Lesson charges
- The instrument hire fee
- Membership of an EA Music orchestra, band or ensemble
- Exam accompaniment sessions
- Aural and theory classes
Costs at primary level
- Lesson length and group size will vary depending on pupil age, standard and instrument
- EA Music tutors will determine the most appropriate grouping
- Lesson costs are fixed for all pupils at £5.50 per lesson
- An instrument hire fee of £50 is due at the beginning of each academic year
- If your child is a member of an orchestra band or ensemble a membership fee is required
- Pupils with Free School Meal Entitlement (FSME) are eligible for a remission of 70% on the cost of all EA Music provision (including tuition, instrument hire and OBE membership)
Costs at post-primary level
- EA Music tutors, in partnership with the school’s Head of Music along with the pupil’s parents/carers, will determine the most effective lesson length and, if applicable, group size
- Lesson costs are calculated depending on group size and length of lesson. Full detail of charges is shared with schools directly and parents are advised of costs prior to each academic year
- An instrument hire fee of £50 is due at the beginning of each academic year
- If your child is a member of an orchestra band or ensemble a membership fee is required

Instrument hire cost
Instrument hire is a fixed cost of £50 per year. This includes basic maintenance and repairs.
EA Music pupils who wish to buy their own instrument can take advantage of the EA Music Assisted Instrument Purchase Scheme
Ensembles cost
Ensembles vary in cost but are based on an equitable formula that considers duration of rehearsal, and frequency. In practice these start at £59 per year for our first entry ensembles, and increase according to the duration and standard requirements for each ensemble. Value for money
What’s right for the needs of each child is a unique consideration, one size does not fit all. We firmly believe our service offers value for money and maintains the highest quality delivery for every child, and would encourage you to contact your local music centre to discuss the best options for you and your child.
EA Music remissions policy
- Pupils with Free School Meal Entitlement (FSME) are eligible for a remission of 70% on the cost of all EA Music provision (including tuition, instrument hire and OBE membership)
- This remission will be implemented directly by EA Music
- Parents will be asked to confirm eligibility during registration
